Dinner originally means "to break the fast", and Lunch[eon] means Ladies' Nunch[eon]

c.1300, dinner evolves from Old French disner, disnar, disnur which comes from Latin dis- (to break) -iēiūnō (to fast)

You cannot have dinner unless you fast because you cannot "break the fast" without fasting.

Lunch[eon] means Ladies' Nunch[eon].
Nunch[eon] originally means Noon Munch.
